Henry Bragonier
3rd Class Private 1st Battalion of Lancaster County Militia Pennsylvania
Listed on the Militia Roster Berkley Co, (West) Virginia. married Anna Eve about 1750 in Hanover, Germany.
Later in life Anna Eve spelled her surname as Brakonier on deed records.
The Historical Register of Virginians in the Revolution 1775-1783 by John H. Gwathmey, published by the Dietz Press, Richmond 1938 lists a Burgooner, Jacob on page 111, Berkeley Militia, E. The "E" refers to this record having been taken form the Index of the Revolutionary Records in the Virginia State Archives, compiled by Dr. H. J. Eckenrode in 1912 & 1914. No information was found on this Jacob in the Adjutant General Office in U. S. Archives, Washington D. C.
History of Scott County, Iowa, Inter-State Publication County 1882 pages 1210-1211 has a biographical sketch of Jacob Bragonier, a native of Franklin County, Pennsylvania, born 11 November 1821, stating Jacob’s father served in the Revolutionary War & was at the surrender of Lord Cornwallis at Yorktown. Also was a ferryman at the time of Washington crossing at Trenton.
Peter was born in 1727 (Germany) and died in 1804 Hagerstown, Maryland! Peter is listed in the "Patriot’s Oath of Fidelity & Support" in the March court of 1778. In that list of those who took the oath was Peter Brackaunier #251 from the Worshipful Henry Schnebely’s returns! Peter would have been 50 years old in 1778!
Stapleton in "The Bragonier Family" recorded three members who had Revolutionary war service, namely:
1) David Bragonier (David, Peter, Nicholas) was a drummer boy in the war of 1812
2) Alfred Bragonier (Jacob, Jacob, Peter, Nicholas) served through part of the Civil War
3) Oscar Ruperly Bragonier (Alfred, Jacob, Jacob, Peter, Nicholas)
Oscar served in the U.S.N. as Assistant Engineer throughout the Spanish American War
In the British Invasion of Maryland 1812-1815 by William M. Marine 1913, page 234 there is a reference to Keron Burgoin, Private in Captain King’s Company 49th Regiment. He was in a detachment of Elkton, Maryland artillery company ordered on service in April 1813, but he was not on the Company payrolls that summer!
