Henry (Bragooner) Peckiner; born in Hanover, Germany & married someone named Catharine.
Henry (Bragonier) Peckiner is thought to be a Huguenot, & remained in Frederick County, Maryland about the time it was thought that Johan Nichol Peckener Sr & family went to South Carolina as per the Beckner book. The Beckner book list Henry's father as John Nicklas Beckner.
Pennsylvania Archives, Series 5 Vol. VII pages 93,97 and 649 list Henry Bragonier as a 3rd Class Private, in Captain Mathias Slaymakers Company, 1st Battalion of Lancaster County Militia in the Muster Rolls relating to the Associators and Militia in 17**. In the three separate listings of the members of the company, Henrys last name is spelled both Bragonier and Bragooner in those listings. Henry was a farmer living in Frederick County Maryland in April of 1766 when he bought land there on "A Spring Descending into Israel's Creek _______ two tracts, Tanyard and Addition (K:464). On 20 November 1769 (M:584) Henry sold the "Goods and Chattels" and on 21 November 1770 (N:466) Henry sold his land in Frederick county. His wife Catherine relinquished her dower rights at that time.
It is possible that Henry went to Strassburg Township in Lancaster County Pennsylvania, where a Henry Bragooner was listed in the 1782 tax list and also in the militia list as a 3rd class private. (Pa. Archives 5th Ser. VII:93, 97, & 649) No record has been found of his family.
Henry could be the Henry Beckener who owned 40 acres of land in Virginia in 1795. He could also be the Heinrich Bechner in October 13, 1749 who qualified on that date arriving from Rotterdam at Philadelphia, PA on the ship Lydia (Captain John Randolph).
Possible reasons for his surname being spelled differently so often:
German "P" mistaken for "B"
German "C" mistaken for "G" [Procunier-Brogunier]
German "T" mistaken for "D" [Tunker-Dunker]
